Root-building season

As temperatures moderate, cool-season grasses generally become more active.

This is an important period for the lawn's root system.

Rather than encouraging excessive top growth, good fall management supports a healthy plant going into winter.

Continue mowing according to the lawn's actual growth rate rather than simply following a calendar. Follow the one-third rule: remove no more than approximately one-third of the grass blade at a single mowing.
